Gourmet To Go Dunsborough

Overview :

When looking for a fish and chip store in Dunsborough last year, it seemed that there was only one Fish and Chip store in town. The reviews were not fantastic but with 3 families and 7 kids that wanted fish and chips, our options were limited.

On the way in to the store to order, our director Marc, stumbled on a poorly marked kerb (so he claims) and into what he thought was the store where he placed his order.

While ordering, it become clear that this was in fact a different fish and chip store. During the wait, while sipping on an ice cold banana smoothie, it became apparent that this store had absolutely no online presence.

After coming to an agreement (unfortunately not by being paid in fish and chips due to our accountant recommending against it), we set about creating the much-needed profiles and directory listings. We also created an optimized Google My Business listing and commenced an SEO campaign.

We are happy to say that, just 5 months after commencement, there has been a big increase in traffic, both via the website and other listings and also through the door. After just 5 months, the business is now a genuine online option in Dunsborough and with a little more time we have no doubt will become the number one player in town.

 

The Challenge :

It is not every day that your competition is not only a monopoly in the town your business is, but is also located next door. This was the unique situation we found ourselves confronting when we started a search engine optimization campaign for Gourmet To Go.

To add to this, our new clients, also had absolutely no online presence. This can occur quite often when a small business owner knows how to run a successful business but the world of computers and online marketing is a foreign concept.

It can be daunting to try and start competing against an established business in a niche where they are the only visible option. But, with expertise and patience we knew we could start to get our client not only visible but a genuine competitor, with an eye to be the market leader in the future.

Our key objectives were to rank on the first page for 10 of their most important keyword searches and to also provide them visibility on Google My Business, TripAdvisor  Facebook and all other relevant platforms.

 

The Process :

On first inspection of the website, it become clear that it was not up to scratch. They had been sold an overpriced blog instead of website that could meet the needs of their potential customers.

It was clear that a new website would need to be created with emphasis on making it mobile-friendly. With the budget firmly in mind, we created a site that would meet the monetary allowance whilst delivering all the bells and whistles that would be required to not only keep the website users happy and informed but to also allow us to conduct a successful SEO campaign.

Our developers added a ‘Call’ button so customers could get in touch instantly via mobile and also added a ‘Menu’ button so they could see the options and prices immediately. This option is also downloadable so regular customers can have it on them at all times so they do not need to  waste time coming to the site or finding a menu at home.

We also expanded the list of service pages on the site to allow more content to be dedicated to particular services that are important to the business. This not only helps with the user experience but is a key part of successful SEO work.

Once the site was finished and updated with useful content then we set about creating complete profiles on all relevant platforms and directories so that they could now compete with the other store. This gave not only locals but people from out of town the knowledge that they existed. As the reviews started to come in organically, the star ratings were far superior to their competitor (which we knew as we have tasted the fish and chips which are divine!). This is vital to a business that relies on tourism, where a lot of searches are done weeks before from hundreds or even thousands of kilometers away.

 

Results :

At the end of the day, results are the yardstick that we need to go by. We are proud to say that the results have been very strong and this is within the first 5 months. We  will continue to see strong results as time goes by and higher rankings are achieved.

As part of all our SEO campaigns, we install the correct analytics and tracking software so that we can report to our clients the value of our service in meaningful terms. We are please to say that within 5 months the following has occurred.

  • Total website sessions have increased from 136 to 250 (That’s an 84% increase!)
  • Organic search (users coming from a keyword search) increased from 50 to 127 (A 154% increase!)
  • All keywords on the first page with 5 terms in the first two spots.
